NYIFF which will be celebrating it's 14th anniversary, is the oldest and most prestigious Indian film festival in US that aims to showcase some of the finest talent working in the diaspora. This year's festival will be held from May 5 to 10 at some of the most popular New York venues.
“We are thrilled to be opening this year’s New York Indian Film Festival with Anurag Kashyap’s new film ‘Ugly’,” said festival director Aseem Chhabra.
“Anurag has been in the forefront of India’s growing indie films movement, always pushing the boundaries and inspiring the new generation of filmmakers. Personally I am a big fan of his films.”
Kashyap will engage in a post-screening conversation which will be followed by the opening night gala event featuring influential guests including celebrated IAAC supporters and other filmmakers.
Kashyap will be returning after a gap of 1 year to the festival. The 2012 edition of the festival was closed with his highly acclaimed movie “Gangs Of Wasseypur” which was a two-part and five-hour-long drama about the coal mafia of Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
This year's festival will be closed with renowned actress and filmmaker Aparna Sen's latest work “Goynar Baksho” which is a Bengali comedy horror movie based on the novel of same name written by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay.
The centrepiece movie for this year will be debutante director's film “Liar’s Dice”. The movie which has acclaimed actor Nawazudin Siddiqui in pivotal role was nominated in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at Sundance this January.
